Acid reflux is a condition in which there is an abnormal reflux of acidic contents which causes mucosal damage.Signs and symptoms of acid reflux are the following: chest pain or commonly known as heartburn, dysphagia or difficulty in swallowing, cough and hoarseness. Those with acid reflux will have these signs occur to them immediately after a heavy meal or alcoholic drinks or while having a smoke.

Esophageal sphincter which is weak can cause acid reflux. Increased gastric acids produced by stomach to digest food articles can become the main cause behing acid reflux.Inflammation is caused in some cases when the gastric acids supplied is not adequate.

hiatus hernia, zollinger-elison syndrome, hypercalcemia, scleroderma and system sclerosis are some other reasons for acid reflux condition.

Intake of alcohol has a lesser chance of becoming a factor that can lead to the disease but doctor still advices to avoid drinking alcohol to prevent further aggravation.One of the major reasons behind acid reflux condition is smoking. Guys or girls who have been smoking for more than few decades have a very high percentage chance of getting acid reflux condition. The symptoms of people who already developed GERD are getting worse with each passing day.

Research also shows that large amounts of salt are equivalent to regular smokers in terms of risk in acquiring the said disease.

Certain acid reflux symptoms are very easy to identiy and hence should be easily identified by the individuals. This disease can be treated in numerous way. It will also help in the treatment if the person will stop or withdraw from smoking or intake of alcohol. GERD or acid reflux can even ruin your everyday life because of the discomforts it causes.
