Dyslexia in children is a frequent cause of learning disabilities. Dyslexia is one of the most frequently encountered cause of learning disabilities. Dyslexia is a neurological condition in which the signals received from the eyes are not clearly interpreted by the brain. One of the results is that dyslexics “see” things differently and need special training to be able to interpret them as non-dyslexics would.

Often the first indication of dyslexia shows up as problems with reading. To read one must see the letters of words correctly and then interpret these letters into words and the words into sounds and thoughts/ideas. Various types of dyslexia can complicate this process of perception and translation.

The word “dyslexia” itself, consists of “dys” -not working, as in “dysfunctional” and “lexia” - having to do with reading, words, documents. It is based on this often observed problem with reading.|The origin of the term “dyslexia” is in the idea of “problems with reading”.
